How I can safely put on the glass top of the base of logs?

We have an old wooden base held a series of wooden tray. I want to replace the dish with a round of 36 "or 42" tempered glass lid. While the top of the base is only 16 "square wooden we cover a round (18 "or 20") circle painted wood. Is the glass enough to be above the circle of wood, or I can put a kind cushion, or some how to put the plate glass more securely? Thanks for your ideas!

You can buy little rubber "feet" that stick to almost any surface. (They are just little round dots). Just stick to the wooden base of its pedestal and place the glass over them. Son very clear if you can not see! They hold the glass so as not to leave the base. We used this method to the art gallery at all times. You can use this technique parent class to create almost anything! Peace!
