1. Amoco Cadiz – The Amoco Cadiz ran aground on Portsall Rocks, three miles off the coast of Brittany, France March 16, 1978 for lack of stormy weather. About 200 miles of coastline was contaminated with the entire cargo of 68.7 million gallons of oil spilled into the sea

2. Arabian Gulf Spills – Approximately 900 million barrels of oil spilled in the Gulf of Oman in the Iraqi Army destroyed tankers, oil terminals and oil wells in Kuwait during the Gulf War in January 1991, resulting in one of the greatest disasters of oil spill ever.

3. Exxon Valdez – In what is considered the largest oil spill in U.S. history, Exxon Valdez ran aground in Prince William Sound, Alaska, 24 March 1989, dumping 10.8 million gallons of oil. Cleanup costs alone of $ 2.5 billion.

4. Ixtoc I – exploration wells blew June 3, 1979 in the Gulf of Mexico and when the well was brought under control, 140 million gallons of oil had spilled. It noted that the number 2 in the list of the worst oil spill incidents in history.

5. Burmah Agate – The Burmah Agate collided with the Mimosa in the Port of Galveston on November 1, 1979 because of an oil spill of more notorious seafarer.

6. Atlantic Empress – The Greek tanker Atlantic Empress participated in two major oil spills when it collided with the captain of the Aegean Sea against Trinidad and Tobago, during a tropical storm, 19 July 1979. The spill is the most comprehensive large shipboard and spills of the fourth largest total oil spill in history.

7. Argo Merchant Oil – December 15, 1976, the Argo ran aground marine on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, USA shedding 7.7 million gallons of oil, enough to heat 18,000 homes for a year.

8. Oil Spill Prestige – Most major environmental disaster ever in Spain, the tanker Prestige off the Galician coast November 13, 2002 caused considerable damage to the local fishing industry.

9. Boats Bouchard 155 – Three ships, boats Bouchard 155, the freighter Balsa 37, and the barge Ocean 255, collided in Tampa Bay, Florida, August 10, 1993. The Commission Bouchard spilled only 155 gallons to 336,000 estimated No.6 fuel.

10. South East Queensland – cleaning tasks were estimated at a staggering $ 100,000 per day in one of the disasters of the recent oil spill, held on 11 March 2009 in the southern Queensland coast.
