Shower Trim

I responded to many calls for leaks of showers in the last 13 years. Almost all the rainfall that have been inspected or fled to the metal door on the track that is glass. The leak itself is not always obvious, but the damage caused in recent years is obvious.

The result is plinths rotten, damaged by water and plaster mold in the shower meets the floor, just outside the glass door. The good news is that when confronted with evidence of water damage to isolated outside the door of the shower, almost all leaks were the result of an original installation error. The error is in how to cut the shower was sealed with silicone caulk. The error is compounded in recent years by fans and DIY'ers add more caulk in the shower as a repair or a part of home maintenance. Do not worry, is a common drive to continue to add caulking in the shower the expectation that eventually stop the leak. Not only is it common installation errors, I have been witness in 100% of the rainfall pattern and the same water damage.

The most important lesson when sealed with mastic is "less is more." Since it is very important to carefully caulk out of the shower, metal finishing, it is equally important not putty in the "holes mourn" In the shower. They are little drainage holes in the bottom of the metal track in the shower and pre-made acrylic shower pans. These holes allow condensation and water into the metal track to drain inside the shower instead to be trapped and eventually find an alternative escape route. For proper drainage system, also suggest that no caulking inside track on curves. The faster the water can flow along the track and out of the shower drain, the faster the showers are dry. This reduces the risk of mold greatly.

The type of filler used is also essential for a long shower Waterproof trim. 100% silicone sealant silicone is the only one that has stood the test of time for me. He does not back down or crack if it is in full sun and remains flexible for a long period. Caulking acrylic hardens, cracks, and is less able to hold moisture. In general, it is easier to match silicon metal from the edge clear and plumbing fixtures, while the color matched white grout or silicone is better adapt the corners of the walls, shelves and benches in the shower.

Last but not least, check all rubber seals are still in place and in good form around the sides of the glass shower door and scan the bottom of the shower door. These are there to help the inner slope of the shower and go splashing in the gaps in the door to a minimum. These items can be replaced with low cost glass shop.
